Frequently Asked Questions
Is Vogel Orchard a pick-your-own?
No, our experts pick our peaches and have them graded and ready to sell. Jenschke Orchards is a PYO and their phone number is 830-997-8422.
Are the peaches from Vogel Orchard organic?
No, we use minimal amounts of federal and state regulated pesticides to grow sweet, pretty, and safe peaches. Just like you, we want a safe product to share with family and friends!
To our knowledge, there are no commercially grown peach orchards in the state of Texas that are legally classified as organic.
Are the current peaches from this year's crop?
Yes, we harvest our own peaches on a daily basis from mid-May to mid-August each year. There is no carry-over from previous seasons like with pecans.
Do you ship peaches?
Yes, we ship peaches based on availability. Please check our website under “online store” or call us at 830-644-2404 for availability.
Can we reserve peaches?
Yes, we do take orders on peaches when there is adequate availability. For more information about the current peach varieties and availability, please call us at 830-644-2404. Do not email us to reserve peaches as we do not check the email as regularly as we do answer the phone.
What forms of payment are accepted?
We take cash, credit cards, and checks. However, we do have a 4% cash discount!
What is the best ripening process to follow?
1. Take your peaches out of the bag or box and place them on the counter or a flat surface for ripening. Ripening usually takes a few days.
2. Check your peaches often. When they feel soft to the touch, they are ready to eat.
3. Once your peaches are soft, they can be placed in the refrigerator to extend their life. Refrigerated, they may last up to a couple of weeks.
4. If you are unable to use all the peaches, slice them, put them in a freezer bag, and into the freezer to use at a later time.
What is the difference between Peach Preserves and Peach Butter?
Nelda and the peach peelers peel and cut the peaches to make peach preserves. You will see a lighter color in the jar with chunks of peach in it. Peach butter is the whole peach (minus the seed), smoothly pureed, and cooked with nutmeg and cinnamon to give a more spiced flavor. Both are great to spread on toast, put over a block of cream cheese, or dollop on your ice cream. Peach Butter can also be used for flavoring in bastes, pancakes/waffles or cake batters, substitute for orange marmalade, and more.
